There are a number of images we all seem to use on a regular basis and that are extremely useful to use in conversations here.
what if we had a repository, HERE, that contained those useful images. we have Smilies and emoticons that are used to express ideas, emotions and to clarify points... why not something similar and easily usable for larger images and macros?
this image comes to mind as a prime candidate:
Yes, it would take a new system to link the images AND it would take space and bandwidth on whatever server the AF is setup on... but, its just an idea.
I know that i use images from my own site regularly, and i am willing to bet that others would like to have a ready collection of useful images, tailor made for the AF, here. perhaps set up hot-link protection. _________________ -=The Believer is Happy; the Skeptic is Wise=-

Someone post the FUCKING IDIOT stamp on here. _________________ "Shake off all the fears of servile prejudices, underwhich weak minds are servilely crouched. I took this pic in OKC, added the caption. It's the same thing that's floating around the web. Just a different angle and a cloudy day

Couldn't we have a community Image Shack account (or Photobucket or Webshots for that matter)? If someone opened the account and posted the user ID into public domain, then anyone could drop by and snag a timely piece of photographic mastery. That might work, no? _________________

that would be very hard to keep safe from vandals, though. ANYONE could come on here, get the pw, then simply take over the Account.
unless, of course, we just want one person to be entrusted with the account and we just have a link to the page with the images and have that one person responsible for uploading the images requested. and thats kinda how i do my site. _________________ -=The Believer is Happy; the Skeptic is Wise=-

That would be a pain in the ass because if people put up 50 pictures in one day, that single "caretaker" would have to dl all of them to his own computer and then re-upload them to IS or Webshots. It would be a ton of work for the unfortunate one who got stuck doing it. _________________

...or we could just PM the user name and password to the public imageshack account.
Sounds like a pretty good idea to me, actually. Everybody could add and use pics from our little community chest. _________________ "If we long to believe that the stars rise and set for us, that we are the reason there is a Universe, does science do us a disservice in deflating our conceits?"

Hmm... who would decide who got access to upload?

You say that like it's a bad thing.
How about atheists with over 100 posts? |

nah, its not a bad thing, but i can see some people getting butt-hurt over the fact they don't have (for very good reason) access.
My company actually has a communal photobucket account... so, this idea certainly has merit and precedence. _________________ -=The Believer is Happy; the Skeptic is Wise=-

Seems cumbersome to send 6,317 PM's to 'eligible' members. It would have to be open access or one person. Anything in between becomes a logistical nightmare. _________________

True. True. True.
Although we don't exactly have 6,317 active members...
