No, I was talking about the real meaning, not some superstitious bullshit Blah Blah

The "REAL" meaning of the day dates back to Pagan times and traditions (waaaay before gawd was invented). So that when you say "REAL," is that what you are referring to or are you referring to the present-day spectacle that so-called Christians have made of the day by stealing it and twisting its significance to fit their hypocritical and phoney agenda? (I don't mean to be confrontational just wondering... .)

I was raised in a secular country and celebrated the day but it didn't have anything to do with the birth of someone who never existed. It was not about spending exorbitant amounts of money we didn't have buying presents for people we didn't like and didn't care for or for people who didn't like us and had no use for our presents. The day was just about bringing the whole family together under one roof and celebrating life, love and family. No presents, no money, no praying, just love, good company, lots of food, booze and music and a great deal of happiness. If you are going to celebrate at all, I firmly believe that is the way to do it - bring the family, friends and those around you together, show them you care and put the credit cards away! During the rest of the year "do unto others as you would like them done unto you" (or some crap like that) because your stupid $9.99 acrylic scarf from Wal Mart ain't gonna make up for how lousy you've been to them all year. It may work for your gawd but ain't gonna work for intelligent people with a feelings and a heart.

Amen and awomen!

To all those who said you celebrate Christmas. The whole purpose of it is to celebrate the birth of Jesus regardless of how ignorant you may be. Yes, you can have your beliefs/not even care about the whole point of Christmas. But, thats what it was founded on,thats what the purpose today (regardless if a small population refuses to acknowledge it) and you can't change that.

who cares what christmas was founded on, if you want to celebrate the birth of a baby 2,000 years ago then thats fine, if non christians want to exchange presents and have a good time with family why the fuck should you even care, how does it even affect you

what would you have us do instead, stay indoors on christmas and be miserable all day, since mnost of us on here come from christian families its not like we can get away from christmas,

Ha ha...well said! I actually had a Jesus Freak get PO at me because "I was home with pay" on Chistmas day. So, I asked him whose fault was that and reminded him that, were it not for "Christians" and religion, there wouldn't be a Christmas day off with pay! I further challenged him to wipe away religion from the face of the earth (and all its accompanying "holey days with pay") and then come back and ask me if I missed him. Ha ha ha...the moron is STILL thinking about that one...

xmas is a fun holiday... it has so many pagan origins that it seems you don't have to be a christian to participate in it. plus, you shouldn't have to adopt and believe a whole belief system to participate in some of their traditions.

My atheist wife and implicitly atheist two-year old daughter happily celebrate the commercialization of Christmas by spending waaaay to much money on stuff we wouldn't ordinarily buy.

I love listening to Christmas music. I especially like Harry Conick Jr. His music has a nice jazzy feel to it. His version of "I Pray on Christmas" is very "New Orleans". The old Christmas standards are in my rotation of course; Bing, Frank Sinatra; Johnny Mathis; Nat; Dean-o.

I walk around saying Merry Christmas to nearly everyone and I wear a Santa hat when I go shopping.

Do I celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ...no.

I do think that there was someone born named Jesus Christ and maybe he went around the Middle East preaching the Gospel of the God of Abraham but I haven't seen much evidence that he performed great miracles (couldn't someone have snapped a few pictures of Lazarus freshly raised from the dead?).

Besides, Jesus wasn't born on December 25th so I don't even know what all the hoopla is about. Maybe Santa was born on December 25th.

Anyhow, do I celebrate Christmas, sure but not "the reason for season" as our Christian friends like to point out.

I like that version too because I'm from new orleans Smile
