Now Now Now. I see that today most computers are total OVERKILL.

Dual cores only work is the application or OS supports it.

There's no reason why you need 4GB of RAM. You need a faster clock speed, not more. Even 512mb does FINE for every day tasks.

Modern games are made BLOATED to help the PC market gather more money. Yay Microsoft. OpenGL running the same level of detail as Crysis works FINE on my rig.

P4@2.8Ghz+Tandem 1.2Ghz Xeon cluster

1GB+512mb RAm @ 400mhz

Nvidia GeForce 6200LE

Unix based OS.

Maybe not...but its good to know its there. You do like Milton Berle...you whip out just enough to win!

Then again, keep in mind that my first computer had 2.1g hard drive and 133m ram running Win95 and people couldn't conceive what I would ever need all that "firepower" for.

Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz
4 Gigs Ram
ASUS P5N-E SLI Mobo / 1333 MHz fsb
NVidia GeForce 8800 GTS
10 TB Hard Drive Space
Samsung Syncmaster 2493HM 24" widescreen monitor
Vista Ultimate 32bit

I built this rig earlier this year primarily to work with ginormous Photoshop files and digital video stuff, but it works well for everything I throw at it.

The only reason you need to upgrade for is because developers are getting lazy. Programs aren't as light and solid as they once were. Back then, a lot of measures were made to make SURE something worked. But now... bleh.

People are forgetting that you can have a ton of fun with games without the dazzling graphics. The graphics are trying to make up for what games once were. And if the game is good, it's often bloated.

I'm telling you, folks. D3D is awful. I use OpenGL 2.1 on a Unix platform and it runs just as good on this machine as a 9800 would.

This is the laptop that I play my video games on at the moment. I have >30 computers (they are mostly in my mini-cluster), but sadly, this is the best video card that I have. I'm planning on building a desktop for video games later this year. That 9800 GX2 looks tempting...

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.00GHz
2gb RAM
80gb HD
nVidia GeForce 7900 Go
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3

Maybe you should play Nethack to vent a little steam?

Personally I'll take Fallout 3 any day, bloated or not.
