Hello.
This is a survey type thing.
Part of my illness with Christianity is things like this:
I hear a man say, "You should be happy in Jesus."
I say, "How?"
I want to get to the root of hypocrisy here.
Why is it so offensive?
It's like being given an empty glass of water and being told, "Have faith in the water, it is there."
Like this:
The man says, "Be happy in Jesus"
But leaves out, "But while I was being happy in Jesus, I had an attractive wife give me the best oral sex, my Lexus had padded seats, I ate hot dogs often, and I was able to keep from doing Crystal Meth".
Like this:
They say "Believe"
But they say with actions, "It's not really the belief, it's the basic necessities and perks of life that are always there." |

Lots of luck with that.
My perception is that hypocrisy is part of the human condition. I formed that opinion after about 50 years of never having met a completely honest person, so far as I can tell.
I realise it may just be me.So by all means ,please let me know when you come across one .Please remember to provide empirical proof of your claim. 
It might be a more profitable use of your time to concentrate your own virtues ,which are within your control,rather than the vices of others, which are not. |

And it's of the raw, "Come on, let me get in another game of Halo before I have to go to bed." variety.
Profitable or not, I had to get this worm out of my brain.
I finally settled in my heart that it has to do with:
If someone preaches, "Be happy in Jesus", it is commonly held that such a charge has a commitment involving personal loss and uncertain suffering.
To even be able to speak such a thing, which has the obvious consequence that people will take you seriously, is to be on equal terms with the person affected by the charge. That is, what you ask of a person, be able to provide the means to fulfill the request.
The person preaching it has only, "Because it is in the bible" for their authoritative charge.
So if that person denies even one part of the rest of the bible in their actions, they have made that charge of "Be happy in Jesus" a lie, because to say, "Believe the bible", and contradict the smallest element, is to invalidate yourself in the eyes of every human being who is not as stupid as preachers think they are. |

The problem with the world is everyone thinks it would be a better place if the other 6 billion+ of us adopted their personal opinions. This especially so when it comes to those with strong religious, political and in some cases philosophical convictions.
I don't find such religious prosletysing annoying, but then I don't encounter much in my offline life to get annoyed with. If I lived in a different part of the world where it's a daily torment I dare say I'd be a lot less tolerant.

Whatever a man's mind takes my words for, let them.
But I have heard preachers make a big deal about people who leave their certain material pleasures (small things, we would call them, like excessive McDonalds, and video games, or drinking beer),
and the preacher gives no help or anything in how to fill the gap that they have created by asking someone to remove from their life what is their life in the first place.
And then the preacher beats the person over the head verbally because they are not magically happy in Jesus.
I know a lot of people here "found Christ" and then felt like they got a bum deal. They got an empty glass of water to drink. |
