I have gone to a movie per week this year. I have decided on a top 5 list of my favorites:

1.) Blood Diamond (The Acting, The Tension, The Action, The Back Ground Context)

2.) The Departed (The Acting, The Tension, The Cast)

3.) The Nativity Story (The Cultural portrayal and its accuracy, The Manger moment)

4.) Stranger Than Fiction (The concept, Dustin Hoffman and his coffee addiction)

5.) Babel (The Tension, The interweaving of 4 story lines, the tragedy in an indifferent world)

Any thoughts or critiques of my list? Do you have your own list? I know we still have two weeks left, but I seriously doubt any of the movies in the next two weeks will make a dent.

No Borat? Razz

I think I see a movie in the cinema about once every 2-4 months. Razz

I liked The Departed. Was The Fountain any good? A few people I know walked out on it.

Wedding Crashers didn't come out in 2006, but it's the best movie I've seen this year. I laughed so hard it made me sick.

Good acting, neat story, very different and original.

I recommend it for anyone who isn't afraid to think.

Superman Returns (twice, one regular and once in IMAX 3D).

I think that is the only movie I have gone out to see this year.

ooh, yeah! Superman was really good, too. I walked out of the theater saying, "They did it right! holy crap, they actually did everything right!"

Superman:

What makes superman = superman is Clark Kent. With Chris Reeves the contrast between the bumbling camped up Clark Kent and Superman was much better than in Superman Returns. I thought superman returns was just boring. Superman did not have the gravitas he had in the 1970's and 1980's movies. My eyes were fixated on Chris Reeves, not with this new guy.

MOVIE PER WEEK:

I admit it was a slight exaggeration. I would bet I have gone to see at least 30 movies this year.

I'll take this topic as any movie I've watched for the first time, even though it may have been released earlier.

With that in mind, "The 42 Year Old Virgin" had me laughing throughout quite regularly. Has anybody else seen that movie and was it funny to you or dumb?

Saw that on DVD a while back. It was quite funny, Steve Carrell has been funny in pretty much everything he's done. And for the record, funny and dumb isn't necessarily an either/or situation.

I hardly ever go to the movies. I think the last movie I saw in the theater was probably Wedding Crashers, which as Chrissy mentioned, was freaking hilarious.

I thought that 'Virgin" had that rare and wonderful balance of humor and heart... we got to see slapstick, in-jokes, pop-culture references, situational humor, Steve Carrell do his deadpan AND we got to see that he can actually act and portray emotions. Personally, i think the movie was kinda under-rated as just being a silly comedy, but it told a really good story and had some very interesting concepts in it.

You, Me & Dupree and Talledaga Nights are recent movies I saw that were both pretty funny. I was a little surprised that I even liked Talledaga Nights, since I'm not big on Will Ferrell.
