That I don't give merit to thereputic hypnosis. I was mentioning something that bothered me and she was like HAVE YOUR STEPFATHER DO HYPNOSIS!!!!1
Honestly, I put up with a lot of my mother's newfangled crystal healing shit when I was a teenager. Being under hypnosis feels the same as closing my eyes and trying not to laugh so no one's feelings get hurt.
She has no problem whatsoever about my atheism, but as soon as it comes to me questioning crystals and aura cleansing and dowsing and reincarnation she gets the >:[ face and grumbles.
How backwards is that?

Sounds like you have a great mom. She accepts your atheism and just grumbles a bit when you refuse one of her ideas. Moms do that sometimes even with non religious advice  Kids complain about their moms too even with non religious topics.
You guys sound normal, not backwards at all |

Actually, there have been some studies about hypnotism as a form of psychological therapy. It's far from conclusive but there is some merit in it. That said it'll only work for anxiety, depression etc. anything that a little introspection and relaxation could cure. It's definitely not a replacement for actual medicine.
