So, I'm looking to start playing an MMO again. I played Everquest, Everquest II and Final Fantasy XI for 2 1/2 years before I was forced to quit due to life. Now World of Warcraft is on the scene so that makes four that I can choose from.
I work massive hours so Raid dedication is out of the question. Also, I don't want to have to put up with too many juvenile jerks on the servers.
That said, which is the better game to start, from a player perspective? _________________ I am jack's smirking revenge. - Fight Club

WoW, hands down.
i'm a videogame snob and i have a limited amount of time to spend on games... WoW wins for great number of reasons. my next suggestion would be City of Heroes/Villains. _________________ -=The Believer is Happy; the Skeptic is Wise=-

If you have any interest in something a little different, I've been playing Pirates of the Burning Sea for a month or so now (very little since GTA IV came out though) and it's a lot of fun. Anyone who was a fan of the Sid Meier's Pirates! series, especially, should check it out. That's been my first foray into MMO games so I have no opinion on the others. _________________ "The very existence of flame throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, 'You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.' - George Carlin

It's pretty cool, unfortunately I don't have a ton of time for it between spring sports, GTA IV, and the handful of tv shows I try to always watch like The Office. The learning curve is about 10 levels or so, but once you're in a good society people are good about helping you level and get better ships with group hunts, complete economic chains (the economy is entirely player driven), finish tough missions, etc. I can probably scrounge up a friend key if you want to give it a free 2 week trial. _________________ "The very existence of flame throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, 'You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.' - George Carlin

EQ2, Hands down.
I've played EQ, EQ2, WoW, DAoC and Vanguard SoH. I have 3 kids so obviously have very little time for gaming and actually quit all gaming for about a year and just recently started back again w/ EQ2. If you don't want the punk-kid factor, I'd suggest getting into a good guild. I'm in one that spans every known online game and is only for 25+ yr olds and they're perfectly understandable when you /say afk, changing diaper.

Played EQ for a number of years, its quite time consuming,
I play WoW now and its great because you can get a lot done in a short amount of time without having to group/raid etc.
I do want to check out Pirates though... |

My wife and I love to play WoW, been playing it together since Beta. We average about 4 hours per day, seven days a week and each have 3 level 70's plus a few toons in their 60's. We're considered casual players. Once you get to 70 the only way to really advance in the game is to raid . Level 70 is really just the starting point. It's very difficult getting 10 -25 players together at the same time for a raid so IMO raid dedication is a must if you want to play WoW. _________________ "No, I don't know that Atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered as patriots. i disagree... i don't raid and i enjoy solo-ing. WoW is very solo friendly, in my experience with MMOs...
there are several ways to advance after max level... raiding is just one. all of the different forms of PvP are there, too. Battle Grounds, Arena, etc... _________________ -=The Believer is Happy; the Skeptic is Wise=-

World of Warcraft.
But EQ back in its day was AWESOME! I mean the world just felt so huge (there was no teleporting stones so the only way to get around was to walk or to get a port from a druid or wizard) _________________ "Shake off all the fears of servile prejudices, underwhich weak minds are servilely crouched. EQ and EQ II are dead. A lot of WoW's players in the beginning migrated from EQ.
If you don't plan to raid then the other options are: Arena PVP or making multiple alts. _________________ "Of the voluntary acts of every man the object is some good to himself." -Thomas Hobbs
