I'm not "dissing" you, just pointing to facts. It's a problem w/ all MMOs, what your casual is, is nearly hard-core to me. I was just commenting on lone's "we're considered casual gamers", which is far from true no matter how you look at it, unless you're that Chinese dude that keeled over from playing so much.
| Quote: |
keep in mind that the TOTAL hours are from FOUR YEARS of playing the game. hell, i was in Beta for it. |
I hear ya, my total hours for my eq2 char since mid-2004 is less than 715 hrs. I'm only using you as an example of a casual gamer and a casual gamer.

EDIT: also... even after for playing off and on for 4 years.. i have yet to have a single 70. my main is 69 3/4. i enjoying playing the regular game so much, i just have no desire to get into the rat-race that is 'end game content'. |
That's cool, I did the whole rat-race bit in EQ1 and didn't find it all that enjoyable. Then in DAoC and EQ2 did the take-my-time and see the WHOLE game, not just get to end-game fast. The latter is a much more enjoyable experience, IMO.

but, as far as MMOs go, WoW is STILL the most casual-friendly.
its really easy to hop on, do some things and hop off.
actually... i take that back. COH/V is THE most casual friendly. _________________ -=The Believer is Happy; the Skeptic is Wise=-

Have they made the game a little more solo friendly? I haven't played the game in months but last I played it, after level 10 soloing became really difficult which was a bit of a turn off for me. I love grouping, but I always liked having the option of soloing if I couldn't get a group. _________________ "Not everything that steps out of line, and thus 'abnormal', must necessarily be 'inferior'" - Hans Asperger, 1938 |

yup. they've really stream-lined the game in thr last few updates. the XP curve is MUCH sweeter and its easier to solo. all good changes from COH/V.
i really like how much COH/V take their players in high esteem. they really listen, they really make changes based on player input and they are ALWAYS giving little gifts to their players... holidays are GREAT in COH/V. its hard to beat the community in that game. _________________ -=The Believer is Happy; the Skeptic is Wise=-

Hmmm....
I may have to take another look at that game sometime in the near future. I really liked the concept but the game kind of dragged after 15 or so. I think the highest I ever got was 18 and then I just couldn't bear it anymore. _________________ "Not everything that steps out of line, and thus 'abnormal', must necessarily be 'inferior'" - Hans Asperger, 1938 |

same here for a LOOONG time. since the latest updates, i've gotten to around 35 and its been FUN. Plus, the new Invention system is kinda cool.. and EXTREMELY useful. The way enhancements and costume pieces are handled with it is really neat. i love it.
like i said, they';e really smoothed out the XP and leveling curve. _________________ -=The Believer is Happy; the Skeptic is Wise=-

I encourage you to rethink this.
WoW is over.
When the new expansion WotLK (Wrath of the Lich King) hits and everyone realizes, "Oh shit, this is even worse than The Burning Crusade" then Age of Conan and Warhammer Online are going to bury WoW. I'm really looking forward to it.
Imagine if someone walked up to you today and asked you if you think they ought to go buy Dark Age of Camelot, or EQ2 and start playing it today... you wouldn't recommend those games would you? They might be fun for someone whose never played them, but you're well aware of the flawed mechanics, imbalances and frustrations that come with hitting cap and not being able to get anything done.
You want to find a PvP based MMO. PvP is the staple of a good MMO, because when people aren't out slaying internet dragons, or farming or crafting or whatever... they're trying to have some fun doing the PvP. PvP is what keeps players interested in the game because it's always evolving, unlike the scripted boss you've downed for the 100th time. WoW is a PvE based MMO, with it's focus on structuring players to defeat scripted mobs, not on class balance in a PvP environment. In this way, blizz has created the frustration for their own customers, because of the rock/paper/scissors off setting of pvp in WoW.
Several new MMO's are hoping to correct these problems, and I can't in good conscious not tell you about the frustrations you will encounter in WoW because of this. Being a new player this deep into the game's release, you're going to run into these frustrations much faster.
There is nothing like rolling a new MMO on Day 1 of it's release and playing it for 2-3 years.

i really want to try this game. do they have a 'download and play a trial for 14 days' kind of deal?
ergh.. off to find the website.. |
You can download the game from the website. It was a bit of a pain to get to work. Check the forums if you have trouble. I had the best luck downloading the minimum file, then letting it run patches for a few hours after running the game. They have a 14 day trial for buddy keys. Don't know if you can get that straight from the site. I think they offered all current players 4 keys or so. I'll check when I get home and I'll PM you if I can find one. _________________ "The very existence of flame throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, 'You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.' - George Carlin

Burning Crusade was great. all of the content was fun, challenging and epic-feeling. the new races, zones and quests were better than anything that came before them.
I'm sure WoW will die one day... but not today and certainly not tomorrow. it has over 9 MILLION ACTIVE subscriptions... it is, by orders of magnitude, more popular than ANY MMO, EVER.
