It's useful for reducing stress and I found it good for focusing my thoughts for martial arts or shooting/archery. I didn't do a lot, essentially a relaxation/focusing exercise that took 2-5min. For relaxation, sex or a walk inthe park is at least as good. |

Find a quiet place, sit comfortably with your spine straight, breath slowly and deeply and focus your mind on a mantra (a chant, such as "Aum pad me") or you can keep your mind completely clear of thoughts, either or for 15 to 45 minutes.
It is good for your overall mood, relieves stress, improves concentration, it's great for a healthy heart and mind. _________________

Yes...why do you want to know how to meditate? What is your goal? |

Half lotus is preferable. Stay in a room that has enough lighting to keep you awake. Focus on a point directly between your eye brows. Sit silently, focusing on this point. Do not hold on to your thoughts, but do not fight them. It's important to not be told what happens in deep meditation, so don't look up too much about it... If you begin to focus on the goal instead of the act, you will get no where fast...
45 minutes is preferable...
I will say this much, a higher DMT content has been found in the brain in study of practiced meditators. DMT is the dream drug, so you can get some of an idea of what is POSSIBLE with meditation. (I say possible because it takes a lot of time and dedication to reach the deeper levels of meditation.)
There are other methods which involve concentrating on the breath. As you feel it go in you feel the belly go out, as it leaves the body your belly goes in. Feel the crescent shape of your breathing on focus on that. Generally, I use breathing techniques as a relaxation practice to prepare myself for deep third eye meditation.
Don't think or analyze, just try it. If it doesn't work call me a new age fag, but don't give up too early. |

Self hypnosis can also have much the same effect.
I learned years ago to help get rid of nasty tension headhaches. It would work IF I started before the headache was fully established.
The word 'hypnosis" just that,a word describing a mental state, accompanied by physical relaxation.
"Meditation" likewise is only a descriptive term of something quite prosaic. Ignorant and superstitious people impart both words with an undeserved mystery. The same goes for yoga.
Each of the above seems to have physical and psychological benefits for many people. However,I think each can cause harm if taught by a quack, and there are plenty of them. Many are quite sincere, and quite nuts:Sincerity is no guarantee of truth or sanity..
Simple guideline: Demand credentials and avoid teachers who attempt to mystify and spiritualise the practices. |

What type of meditation is it? Something like a simple Zazen? Something like Vipassna? Something more like focusing on some ofject like a candle and visualizing it in you mind? _________________ “I think it’s also important for the President to lay out a timetable as to how long they will be involved and when they will be withdrawn.”
