|
|
Alright I know I was a dissenter when conversation first started about having a place for one on one moderated debates. But it makes me nervous to see nothing going on in here. So I decided I would try it out. I would like to challenge Mr._C to a debate as to whether or not there is a historicle Jesus. I am not educated about logic so this should help me get a feel for that kind of stuff. Once a Mod steps forward and Mr._C agrees I will be ready to begin _________________ The Resident Theist

What sort of rules should we consider, HBA?
Also, shouldn't this particular thread be moved to the peanut gallery? |

I don't know. stuff like how long each person has to come up with a response, who goes first, how many rounds, will there be a Q and A session etc.
its up to y'all. |

I'm totally green when it comes to this stuff but I don't think a time limit on response time is neccessary. I trust Mr._C to keep his side of things moving and I will to. I think we can both begin with an opening statement and since I initiated the challenge I let him go first at tearing mine apart. I'm all for Q&A. A suggestion just to maybe help see the progression of the debate maybe and updated listed of points that were allowed to stand or ceded. I can't think of anything else. _________________ The Resident Theist

how about this?
opening statements by both parties
that gets both of your positions out there and made clear. then you take turns offering arguments for your positions and rebuttals against theirs.
do 3 to six rounds (or more or less, its up to y'all)
then one of you will ask the other 10-20 rapid fire questions that require very short answers, then the other will do likewise.
then both of you post final closing statements.
I'm green at this too, but this sounds interesting.
other than that the rules would be obvious. (such as you must debate each others arguments and not attack each other.)
I'd still like to have time limits. say a week at most between each post. more or less is fine by me, if you guys prefer. |

All this sounds good. How bout we try to limit our opening statement to under 10 reasons. (I'll easily be able to do this, I anticipate 4) then we have one round for every point made in our opening statement. then 2-3 rebuttle rounds to clean up any rabit trails before the rapid fire questions. _________________ The Resident Theist

cool we could use you and those like you to help determine the winner. If anybody else would like to identify themselves before we begin _________________ The Resident Theist

as for me I am okay with your suggestions if he is.
I too am neutral on jesus existence as a man.
I won't be declaring winners though. let each person who reads the debate decide for themselves who they feel won. |
