Mr. C, I've pointed someone to you and to the debate you and romans had. I know jack squat about biblical authorship and authenticity, so I couldn't handle the guy. Anyway, his screen name is fanofazrienoch and you can find our discussion here. I was wondering if you could give me any ammo, 'cuz my armory's all dried up on the topic of history.

I like how he gets around the controversy of the "testimonium Flavonium" by just using the undisputed parts about Jesus's brother (very good) Hope Mr._C has something to say

Reminder: My username over there is Angry_Beaver, just so you know which discussion I'm talking about. Razz
I was getting pretty tired at the time and had to get to some homework. Not sure if I'd have been able to make a better rebuttal under better circumstances.

Unfortunately I can't access that site from work...
I would love to help you though. If there's anything specific you want to post here, please feel free.
Otherwise I'll see what I can do from home.

There really are no "undisputed parts", but I'm not sure why it should matter since Josephus published this about 6 decades after Jesus supposedly died.

Why not take a swipe at Mithras? Same story, different players.
I believe there are about 16 different "heroes" with the same story line.

Quote:
Most of the research into Mithraism, a religion with many parallels to Christianity, comes from two writers, Cumont and Ulansey. Some Similarities Between Mithraism and Christianity Among the recorded similarities are:

Virgin birth

Twelve followers

Killing and resurrection

Miracles

Birthdate on December 25

Morality

Mankind's savior

Known as the Light of the world

The Legend of Mithra

it is most likely that christianity originated in the asia minor region( the fact that the writings of paul predate the gospels support this) resulting from the mixture(syncretism) of pagan savior god mythology(reference the mystery religions) with jewish messianic thought(probably influenced by the Essenes) which would explain no mention of a person by the name of jesus in any jewish historical records of the time. the probability that there was a historical jesus is infinitesimal. christina knight
