My point didn't have anything to do with the situation with my boss. Even if he was just trying not to discuss it, he said what he said and I just used it as an example of a popular cultural saying that pisses me off because it is fundamentally incorrect.

I don't equate "Lack of Disrespect" to "Respect."
To me, the default you are talking about is "Common Decency" not "Respect."
