WTF?

I've heard this on several occasions but I heard LaDainian Tomlinson say this last night on the ESPYs and it just never ceases to amaze me how damaging christianity really is. You're worthless without someone you've never even communicated with on any level?

My real question is, if christians are nothing without god, what is everyone else? Christians swear they respect and love non-christians but that's not possible if you believe you're nothing without god. Kind of makes any prospect of mutual respect impossible.

You really need to stop this whole "thinking things through logically" stuff.. its probably bumming Jesus out.

Seriously, though.. yeah, its thoughts like this that kept me from ever even considering christianity.

Christians believe that non-Christians are lost souls and need to find their ways. It is not a question of respect/disrespect as far as they are concerned but one of pity and a need to shed light on them... *sigh*

Oh I know. One of my good friends is christian and I just can't imagine having an atheist friend who, according to his book, will burn in hell for all eternity. It's got to be very confusing to love everyone and have pity on them at the same time.

Nobody is "without God," including atheists. Atheists are simply in denial of the truth that stares them in the face according to (mainly conservative Protestant) Christians. That's how Christians can "love" us.

Not for someone who has made the equation love=pity. That's why many christians will express themselves when tragedy strikes: "poor 'em" or "poor Christians" ( I still hear of lot of that).

What? You never heard the story? LaDanian Tomlinson was a skinny, rheumatic child with two left feet. No...literally. He was born without a right foot. His parents used to have to buy him two pairs of shoes and throw away the rights. He was a nerd in high school, wore coke bottle glasses and used to get his head flushed on a daily basis, usually right after climbing out of the dumpster the jocks threw him into every day right after sixth period geometry.

Anyhow, one Sunday, LaDanian and his minister were alone in the parish after a private.....ummmm....prayer meeting and the Rev convinced young LT to give his heart to Jesus. So LT fell to his knees, and the Rev put his hand on top of LT's head and they....um....prayed to Jesus for a miracle.

The next day, the miracle arrived. LT got out of bed and found he had magically grown from 5'3" to 6'2" and put on 80 pounds of muscle. He looked down and burst into tears when he saw his brand new, perfectly formed, anatomically correct right foot now in its proper place. His family was still celebrating his pedal restoration when the doorbell rang and a courier presented them with a scholarship offer from Texas Christian University. The rest, as per the cliche, is history.

So now you understand. It's all because of Jesus. Without Jesus, LT would be some pencil neck geek getting his ass kicked by the cool kids and suffering the unimaginable indignity of having Urkel fuck his girlfriend. So take note and take heed. Every time you hear the name LT or see number 21 tearing it up in San Diego, it is proof of the power of Jesus. God be praised!

Bingo! Hand the man a cigar. Same line we hear about nobody is really an atheist. The knowledge of gawd is written on your heart by his holy finger in the womb, blah blah...

Pity them instead. "I'm nothing without an imaginary friend", laughable, but sad.

My point is that I don't see how Zocrates' point leads to an insincere "love" for the atheist, based on what they say.

Do Christians who profess love actually feel it? I've never met one who does. I've met a couple who do express a genuine concern for my soul's well-being (a relative few compared to those who preach to me), but never a "love." But there's a logical disconnect in Zocrates' argument presented above: that's all I'm saying.

One of Christianity's central teachings: humans are worthless pieces of shit...around which the entire universe revolves.

One of the fundamental contradicitions.

This is the funniest thing I've read all day. Granted, a large proportion of what I've read today has been about earthquake damage...
