Hmmmmm.... Trout ans Specus were both absent when Imperator and Paranoia splattered their stuff all over the forum?
And now they're back?
Reminds me of a joke I heard once from the early nineties commenting about the demise of the political career of Mrs. Thatcher and the simultaneous advent of the career of Boris Yeltsin.
..and you never see them together, don't you?

Wait. Is Gerard saying I'm Margaret Thatcher? I am SO about to take offense! Accuse me of dastardly sock puppetry all you want, but never confuse me with with a world leader that appeared in a Bond film! |

You can always identify with Yeltsin. But I would say that has even more disadvantages. Him being dead and all.

At the school or church, probably.

I tend to agree with Todangst. Too tolerant for it's own good.
And as for content, it does not measure up to the last couple of years. Sorry, but the content is (mostly) trivia, schoolboy stuff compared to one or two years ago. (Apologies to the offended).
The supposedly more serious Debate Hour site is in a coma. The 15 last posts are from end of April, May.
Let's face it. The old IG has gone for good.

You're right, PR.
I hate to say I told you so, but I when the forum was split off, I told everyone so.
I'm glad the die hards are still around, and frankly that people like you are still around is the ONLY reason I'm still here, but I miss the way the forum used to be.
I've moved on to greener pastures, for the most part. _________________ I am against religion because it teaches us to be satisfied with not understanding the world. - Richard Dawkins

Yellow, I do visit the RRS quite often to read the essays and posts, but I do not post there.
Great site.
Reading there reminds me a bit to the old days of IG. _________________ “The hardest thing to explain is the glaringly evident which everybody had decided not to see.” - Ayn Rand |

Attention. This is not a flame:
Every forum I have ever been on always have a few that claim they were around during A Golden Age. Maybe they were, maybe they are just enjoying the way things were for them at one point, who knows? But forums like these, the ones with very few or basic rules, are constantly evolving. They have to change, get new people, have a different environment or they will die.
Not having theist here to debate or make fun of would really kill the point, I think. If I find someone too stupid, insane, or stubborn to discuss an issue with I usually just skim over their post, or make fun of them. As mentioned before, there is also an ignore feature for those that have no control and MUST read every post made.
You are working with a very free environment. This is what happens in it. It doesn't always stay the same or go your way. In about a month or two, it might resemble your Golden Age again. Until one of us decides a thread need to talk about hockey instead of anecdotal evidence.
You are right. IG is dead. Long live IG! |

My point is this: if you don;t like what is being talked about, or want to talk about something else... YOU be the one to start and support that thread.
"oh why, oh why, isn't anyone having a debate with me about Bose-Einstein Condensate??"
um, probably because YOU haven't made a thread about it.
I was here on this forum from the very beginning, applying CPR ever day trying to resuscitate it. it was very, very close to completely dying. Me, and a few others, would just post something, ANYTHING to give people something to read.. a reason to come here at all. Were the posts very smart or deep? probably not, but, dammit, you're all still here, ain't cha?
Please, if you want the forum to take another direction, don't waste time pining for the old days... take an active stance and lead the way. its not hard.. its just an internet discussion forum.
I;ve been in silly threads and very deep serious threads.. i love 'em both. There;s room for both here. _________________ -=The Believer is Happy; the Skeptic is Wise=-
