rrpaul: For problem 8, I can't remember anything about Taylor series, or any series anymore, but you can get around it:

On one hand, you have that the sum of (x to the 3n) with n going from 1 to infinity = 28/8 = 3.5.

On the other hand, if you play with that sum a little, you will find that if you factor an x cubed out of it, you will then have:
x cubed * (1+ x cubed + x to the 6 + ...) which in turn is equal to x cubed * (1 + the original sum itself), which is also equal to 3.5. You now have a single equation with one variable which should be easy to solve, namely: x cubed * (1 + 3.5) = 3.5. So x is the cube root of 7/9.

I was going to ask Salsa to double check the above, but it looks like he thinks that you should learn this stuff.

Ahhh shit, it's a sum from n=1 not from n=0... what kind of stupid shit is that? I did my work wrong.

See, the plus side of not telling you the answer to the question is that I would have told you the wrong answer. My method still works, but it sasuke's method works just as well.

Oh, I get it now, I feel stupid, I didn't think of factoring.

Thnx....and I did actually learn something lol
