I've met a guy at the fitness center, African American - physically very ugly, with a frog like pompous face. Then this creature spoke to me. He asked me how am I doing, got my attention; and them he started to say that I need to accept Jesus, that he (Jesus) loves me. I was nice, and wished him good evening. But later I thought how pathetic those mothefuckers are...
In small scale, he can preach his idiotism to the public, but if you form a group of those morons, you can create a terrorist organization, who will murder the "unbelievers".... Thats the biggest thing that scares me about organised religion in general.
Maybe next time I should be rude to these kind of people and tell them to go fuck themself?
What do you guys think? |

just keep in mind.. people like him are considered nuts.
as time goes on, religiosity decreases.. and one day, people will be looked at strangely when they say that they believe in an invisible man who lives in the sky. _________________ -=The Believer is Happy; the Skeptic is Wise=-

I like those people. Had a mad guy come at me on the underground today babbling away about the end of the world. I asked him when it was going to happen and he said that Jesus was coming soon on the wings of angels riding aside the pale horse. Then I asked him whats Jesus' favourite colour is. He made my journey a lot more entertaining.
Ask them questions, preferably of the inane variety it's fun. _________________ Kindly stick your Quran/Bible/Torah up your holier-than-thou arsehole you square. |

When they tell me that Jesus is soming soon, I tell them that he said 2000 years ago that he'd be coming "quickly", so soon in this context means nothing at all - it could still be millenia before he shows up! _________________ "True wisdom is less presuming than folly. Ask him if he has a personal relationship with jesus. He will say yes then ask him what jesus sounds like when he talks to him. He will find this awkward and realize you are a hostile target, but that is okay. He will likely give an answer about the communication coming in mysterious ways/as the wind rustles tree leaves/when he least expects it/BS/etc. Then ask him how he knows it is really jesus talking and not something made up in his head. He will give an answer and if you find it dismissive, respond with "cool man" and walk off. It has is the highest impact gambit I have found in situations like this. |

Or you could ask if Jesus spoke to him and if he says yes, you could raise your eyebrow and say, "no I didn't".. _________________ Its not that I question so much whether a god created man, but that he would admit it.- Thomas Brumfield

I think that's a fucking bad idea.
Just say it nicely and in a somewhat calm voice (don't say it directly, then he'll just get defensive) that you appreciate his effort, but you're not interested. _________________ "The first principle is that you must not fool yourself - and you are the easiest person to fool" --- Richard P. White aparently. White is the colour of light which is the first thing the father created, it is also the colour of purity and goodness. Talk to those people seriously its so much fun. _________________ Kindly stick your Quran/Bible/Torah up your holier-than-thou arsehole you square. |

Where abouts was this? There's a theist on BeliefNet, goes by handle of Leight. This sounds like his MO, walk up to total strangers and begin talking about jesus to them,... Of course if his arguments sound even slightly thought out, it couldn't have been Leight. |

I'd dispute the last statement. Though the Marxist in me believes in an inexorable march towards a rational society, the cynic in me thinks that superstition in general and religion in particular satisfies a psychological need for many people that no amount of social engineering, psychological treatment, or modern medicine can ever compete with. It may not be that way forever, but I don't see it changing for a very long time and it may never change. Religiosity may decrease, but I think the basic belief in a supernatural entity and an afterlife may never go away. |

you might be right, but i think even that basic belief can be mitigated. once we, as a species, no longer need to rely on the supernatural in order to explain the universe OR comfort our emotions, we might be able to do away with them.
huge nerd moment... but all i can keep thinking of is Star Trek.. lol. _________________ -=The Believer is Happy; the Skeptic is Wise=-
