Hi,

There is a flyer plastered all over our High School this week and I am wondering if this violates the laws reguarding Church and State.

I'm too lazy to scan the flyer in, so here's the gist of it.

See You At The Pole

Sept. 26, 2007

7:15AM

Sponsored by FMHS F.C.S.

Gather. Unite. Pray.

Come Together

John 17:20-23

A that is plastered everywhere in the school, and has the approval of the schools administration. It seems wrong to me somehow, but when I asked I was told it was legit.

Any opinions?

being that it is not school sponsored, and it is a voluntary gathering of students/teachers/whoever, it is not illegal. them placing posters of an event that happens to be religious infringes on nobody's rights, includings atheists.

i think atheists do themselves a disservice when they get themselves worked up over such trivial things (not saying you necessarily are).

I believe as long as students aren't required to attend it's not illegal.

Yes, it's fine to post those type of fliers. As long as it's not part of an official school business. And it isn't being promoted by teachers during class time. And school resources aren't being used to print the fliers.

That's religious free expression.

You should print off a flyer that specifies a meeting next to where they are meeting, the flagpole or wherever
at the same time... including pointing and laughing at them while they pray.

I bet you'll get shit for it, but it'll be fun.

You could at least cover up all of their posters with some other kind of Atheism poster or Humanist poster or something, be creative.

We (the "freaks") did something similar to that in High school.
I remember leaving class for a "restroom break" where I tore most of them down. I had a few friends that coordinated it. They were loosely taped to lockers and walls everywhere.

Looks legit to me, assuming it's a student organization and not the school itself setting this up.
