A lot of my religious friends always ask me how I put up with having no beliefs. I don't just 'put up with it', i love being an atheist! I know about a lot of the advantages of being an atheist, but what are some of the disadvantages?

Society tends to ostracize you.

There's a nice community aspect to a church. When you're atheist, you not only don't get the church community, you get frozen out of a lot of places.

There are no disadvantages to being atheist, this is the exact opposite under a theocracy in which case there are no advantages.

There are secular ways to experience the benefits that religious groups provide-mutual aid, psychological support, formulating ethical codes, etc. The disadvantage that we secular folks have is the existing methods for gaining such benefits are not as pervasive or long-standing. But these benefits are achievable outside religion and without the heavy price of intellectual integrity so many pay.

they could have plenty of disadvantages socially. Maybe a girl won't get with you if you're an atheist or something like that. I know it's happen to me but i'm usually apathetic towards ignorance of that sort.

Are you asking about disadvantages of atheism, or disadvantages of not having a religion?

i suppose the disadvantages of being atheist depends were you live, if your in Europe, Japan, Korea, Australia and Canada there arent really any disadvantages, i have never heard of any families excluding people because they have no beliefs

whereas if you live in the U.S.A and possibly a few other countries like Argentina, Brazil and Isreal then your more likely to be ignored and possibly abused by people

if you live in the middle east your basically fucked if anyone finds out lol Guy with axe

There are no Atheist holidays!!!

Atheist: [n] A person to be pitied in that he is unable to believe things for which there is no evidence, and who has thus deprived himself of a convenient means of feeling superior to others.

People look at you funny, especially if you were a shirt that says "Jesus was a fraud." or "God is imaginary" but as long as you keep quiet about it there are no real disadvantages perse.

Oh and do you happen to be that black guy from that YouTube video called "Atheist Walking"
