Did Jesus exist?

I would like present a question and would like you to be as elaborate as you wish with the answer, obviously interested in the Atheist opinions as we know Theist.
Try to save the "yes I knew a kid name Jesus in grade school" jokes Smile

would like to know your true opinion or stance on this.

First, what do you MEAN by "did Jesus exist?"

do you mean that all of the magical claims about him in the bible are true OR that he was some guy who said "hey, lets be nice to each other"?

I reject the Son of God, magically multiplying trout, water skiing Jesus.

I accept there MIGHT have been a guy named Jesus who lived back then that they based the Tall Tale of Jesus off of, like Paul Bunyon or Pecos Bill.

Militant yet apathetic agnostic. There's been no solid case presented by either side to date. And unless new discoveries are made, I doubt there ever will be.

And while I may be willing to give Carrier's book a go when it comes out, I'm not really interested too much in the argument anymore. I don't really think it matters whether Jesus existed or not.

well since i havent seen any convincing evidence that he existed, i dont think he did exist,

IMO the jesus story is just an updated version of several other similiar myths i.e mithra

it must be said that i havent actually searched for evidence of his existence through lack of interest so there might be some evidence that i am unaware of

EDIT: Actually, I'm not sure how factual this thing is. It seems like it's on a cult website or something (they use a phrase "The Awareness" and it sounds a lot like a cult to me). They might just be making stuff up or they could be using facts to disprove Jesus. I guess you should read this, but with some skepticism.

You know, I am most likely the dumbest one here. Really, its okay, I can whip anyone of you on Jeopardy but frankly I don't know scratch about physics or math or even the high brow philosophy, but really I have to laugh here. Now just sit back and think of the classic, "how much does it cost" syndrome. "well if you have to ask, you can't afford it."
Now really folks, and I mean all of us, if you have to ask in the year of 2008 if Jesus existed, does that not speak fuckin volumes? Does any other religion ask with such regularity if their prophet existed? Hell the only reason Islam is not laughed at is because there are outside references to Mohammed. Jesus? nada.
Do I think Jesus existed? The one that walked on water? The one that brought the dead back to life? The one that died and came back to life? Not one mother fuckin iota.
