Have any of y'all seen this before? Don't make fun of me if it's everywhere; imported beer is hard to come by here, and I spotted it today and thought I'd try it.
I figured it would either be completely great or it would totally suck, but it turns out that it's only okay. Kind of shitty beer, but the pepper does add a certain welcome kick. I give it a B-. Also kind of cool how the pepper floats to the top immediately upon cracking it open.
I noticed it's labeled as happōshu (lit. "fizzy alcoholic drink") rather than beer, which is rare for imports. Japanese tax laws consider anything above a certain malt content to be beer, and anything below it is happoshu. Real beer gets taxed more than any alcoholic beverage in Japan, but I still buy it. :/
Edit: Okay, so it's not everywhere.

Yay, Japan has more chili beer than 30 U.S. states. |

The Rick Copeland has seen beer with peppers in it. He should try them as he loves hot food and he loves beer... _________________ “I think it’s also important for the President to lay out a timetable as to how long they will be involved and when they will be withdrawn.”

Sorry, my personal favorite beer to the present is Stella Artois, though there are so many beers out there that that could easily change.

Yet it does sound tempting. |

Nope, never heard of it, but I'll keep a look out for it since I love anything spicy! _________________ This space is reserved for inarticulate meat puppets who have no true perspective outside the refuge of quotation marks.

On the spiciness front, it's great, and I enjoyed that part of it, but as beer, it's like Corona, only much weaker. Like if Corona started making a light version (as if it's not light enough) and people started putting chili peppers in instead of limes.
I used to occasionally drink bloody marys with "Inferno" brand vodka at the now-defunct ( ) bar I used to frequent in Uozu. It's vodka with a (huge) cayenne pepper (or two) pickling inside the bottle. I'm not a vodka fan (I prefer bourbon and tequila), but that beat a normal bloody mary. There's also the famous Prairie Fire, with roughly equal amounts of tequila and tabasco. Very aptly named, but I'd indulge occasionally when I was already very drunk. |

Bloody Mary's with cayenne peppers are yummy! Have you tried Miller's new Mexican style beer out called Miller Chill? *shudders* More like Miller Ill. I guess they tried their hand at a Corona Light with lime like taste, but it just doesn't work. _________________ This space is reserved for inarticulate meat puppets who have no true perspective outside the refuge of quotation marks.

Bloody Marys make a great breakfast.
The idea of Miller making a faux-Mexican beer doesn't even sound interesting to The Rick Copeland. He'll take Tecate over that shit any day... _________________ “I think it’s also important for the President to lay out a timetable as to how long they will be involved and when they will be withdrawn.”

Eyedunno, have you considered brewing your own? It's apparently not an unheard of thing in Japan:

dispensed with."-- Niccolò Machiavelli |

Oh yea, a great Sunday morning hair of the dog concoction.

NotATheist pretty much summed up the taste....bleh. If I'm going to drink beer, I'd rather have a Fat Tire, St. Arnold's or Red Stripe...worst case scenario it's Coors Light or Corona Light. _________________ This space is reserved for inarticulate meat puppets who have no true perspective outside the refuge of quotation marks.
