WTF? Why the hell does the government get decide what a person can or cannot choose to wear? Now if a woman is being forced to wear a burkka, thats one thing...but if I may say so, I'd guess most women in France who do so, have chosen to dress like that.
This is another good reason for me to hate the French. _________________ OBJECTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree.. and dont forget the driving... off course you also have to refuse to take it off in order to be ID-ed because after all those in burka dont have to take it off..
I am hoping to get Canadian atheists to show up to next elections in such masks since our govement allows voting under burka....(and there is no requirement to take it off to be ID-ed)
but honestly I think it is a strech.. I noticed that atheits prefer the "do nothing" approach |
Yep, I forgot about the drtiving.
Imagine the whole of Manhattan, men wearing that headcover and women in their burka. Now, that would be a sight. Betcha that even bin Laden would renounce his Jihad against evil Amerika, and would join us...
Ok, enuff of that stuff... |
Joseph, who said you can't wear that? Can you give me links? Of course we nor anybody in burkas can get our voting papers without showing our id's. But actually voting I expect you can wear a gunny sack on your head if you want to.
I don't know about banks. Are you not allowed to wear face coverings there? I mean allowed as in legal not that there wouldn't be security watching you with their hands on their guns
ID pictures have to be the face and that is the only rule I know in this country but I could be unaware. So enlighten me with evidence if you have some.
There was a woman who challenged FL with a burka and lost. I dug up the info again and she was a convert so here again she chose to wear it.

Otherwise I like how our country is. We allow within reason but aren't frightened to take a stand where good sense is necessary. |
Ok I dunno if Joseph plans to provide proof or links but here is some info I found:
Not sure how legit this website is because it seems to be a collection of local laws (in US) gathered by some person that I dont know anything about (so take it with a grain of salt):
http://www.anapsid.org/cnd/mcs/maskcodes.html
NOTE: I did manage to confirm validiti of one law posted on the page and I really dont have time to go through all of them since it is a tedious process and requires me to dig through websites of local govements.
Confirmed law is for North Carolina and it states:
| Quote: |
"§ 14-12.7. Wearing of masks, hoods, etc., on public ways. No person or persons at least 16 years of age shall, while wearing any mask, hood ordevice whereby the person, face or voice is disguised so as to conceal the identity of the wearer, enter, be or appear upon any lane, walkway, alley, street, road, highway or otherpublic way in this State. (1953, c. 1193, s. 6; 1983, c. 175, ss. 1, 10; c. 720, s. 4.)
§ 14-12.8. Wearing of masks, hoods, etc., on public property. No person or persons shall in this State, while wearing any mask, hood or device whereby the person, face or voice is disguised so as to conceal the identity of the wearer, enter, or appear upon or within the public property of any municipality or county of the State, or of the State of North Carolina. (1953, c. 1193, s. 7.)
§ 14-12.9. Entry, etc., upon premises of another while wearing mask, hood or other disguise. No person or persons at least 16 years of age shall, while wearing a mask, hood or device whereby the person, face or voice is disguised so as to conceal the identity of thewearer, demand entrance or admission, enter or come upon or into, or be upon or in the premises, enclosure or house of any other person in any municipality or county of this State. (1953, c. 1193, s. 8; 1983, c. 175, ss. 2, 10; c. 720, s. 4.)
§ 14-12.10. Holding meetings or demonstrations while wearing masks, hoods, etc. No person or persons at least 16 years of age shall while wearing a mask, hood or device whereby the person, face or voice is disguised so as to conceal the identity of thewearer, hold any manner of meeting, or make any demonstration upon the private property of another unless such person or persons shall first obtain from the owner oroccupier of the property his or her written permission to do so, which said written permission shall be recorded in the office of the register of deeds of the county in which said property is located before the beginning of such meeting or demonstration. (1953, c. 1193, s. 9; 1983, c. 175, ss. 3, 10; c. 720, s. 4.)
§ 14-12.11. Exemptions from provisions of Article. The following are exempted from the provisions of G.S. 14- 12.7, 14-12.8, 14-12.9, 14-12.10 and 14-12.14: (1) Any person or persons wearing traditional holiday costumes in season; (2) Any person or persons engaged in trades and employment where a mask is worn for the purpose of ensuring the physical safety of the wearer, or because of the nature of the occupation, trade or profession; (3) Any person or persons using masks in theatrical productions including use in Mardi Gras celebrations and masquerade balls; (4) Persons wearing gas masks prescribed in civil defense drills and exercises or emergencies; and (5) Any person or persons, as members or members elect of a society, order or organization, engaged in any parade, ritual, initiation, ceremony, celebration or requirement of such society, order or organization, and wearing or using any manner of costume, paraphernalia, disguise, facial makeup, hood, implement or device, whether the identity of such person |
While I found this text on many sites I specifically looked for something published by local NC goverment. Here is the link to search results on General Assembly page of NCsearch:

(Click on the first result on that page to find the whole law.)
So Joseph is right at least in North Carolina he wont be able to wear the mask he posted...

NY ->
| Quote: | New York’s anti-mask law criminalizes the wearing of masks or disguises by three or more persons in a public place unless done in connection with a “masquerade party or like entertainment,” after obtaining a permit to wear masks from the police or other appropriate
authorities. The courts have defined “like entertainment” as “social gatherings, dances, and performances that involve masks or costumes,” Under the current law, wearing a bandana tied around one’s face falls within the scope of the mask prohibition. |
So yes and no... lol.. if you go alone or with another person ... probably you are ok..
but if there is three of you.. well you need a permit and a good reason..
This law is anti social.. O_o |

Good job on the research. Because of the dates of the passage of the laws, I wonder if it was to prevent KKK gatherings?

So why did you come up with your (very general) critique concerning the option to forbid the burqa in the first place? |
