My only complaint is of the definition of time. In the case of light years we're defining time by a universal constant, something that doesn't change in accordance to the observer, the speed of light. We consider time, in this case, to be the amount of time light took to go from point A to point B, which is 2 million years, and the craft is still travelling from point A to point B in 2 million years, they have merely suffered a different effect of molecular motion during those 2 million years.
We could say they have suffered the effect of 28,000 years, but time as a sense of a universal constant hasn't changed at all. If the craft could get from point A to point B in 28,000 years however, that's a completely different story.
As joseph said we could argue for forever about what time is, but like I said time is merely a dimension, it separates events. What happens in between those events however, that's relative to the observer. |
it is a 28,000 year trip, for the traveller.
it is a 2 million year trip from the observer's perspective.
let's say we're immortal.
the traveller ages 28,000 years.
we age 2 million years waiting for them to get to point B. _________________ there's a reason christians are called "sheep" |

You're missing the point, we're not talking about time from the perspective of the observer. |

The travelers travel for 28,000 years.
For the observers there is no time dilation so they have been traveling for 2 million years.
Both are right from their own reference points. Simultaneity. _________________ "God doesn't have a limp" House |

I am reminded of this quote by the late, great Astronomer, Carl Sagan:
