Hello,

I'm an infrequent visitor to the forums, but thought I'd introduce myself since I did make a general announcement posting.

My name is John Bice. I'm a writer from Michigan (working at Michigan State University) and since 2002 I've spent much of my time writing opinion articles on religion and politics. Like many atheists, for years I kept my lack of belief in god(s) and the supernatural, and my contempt for religion, to myself. September 11, 2001, snapped me out of my complacency, and I decided to become more vocal with my views. I believe that local activism is the most effective way to become involved, at least it seemed that way to me, and I began writing opinion columns in The State News (an MSU and East Lansing area paper) and the Lansing State Journal (the Gannett owned capitol area paper). I also wrote a couple feature articles for Infidels.org.

I recently posted a press release on these forums, "Atheist Author Urges Godless to go Mainstream," which was a call for other atheists, secularists and freethinkers to become involved in their own local media. http://www.atheistforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=1989

Also, the press release was publicity for a new book I recently published, which is a collection of my various columns and essays.

Although I don't spend very much time on forum sites, I very glad they're here. It's a wonderful resource for atheists. I also posted to another great forum on a site called "Ethical Atheist" where I explained why I think atheists becoming involved in local media is so important.

Cheers,
John
